I was up bright and early yesterday to drive down to Brands Hatch to take my National B Novice Racing Licence. This involved a written test, medical and a driving test in a Renault Megane which made for a fantastic day which resulted in me passing my racing licence! Its now onto Silverstone on Saturday for some more time in my Caterham and some race practice before my first "proper" race on Saturday 28th July @ Pembrey! I'm getting nervous already!
My sponsorship is hopefully well on the way now with BLACKS SOLICITORS, LAVERTON PROPERTIES LIMITED, INTECHNOLOGY AND EVERYMAN/EYEONIT all showing interest in partnering my team! Come on Sleathy!

My name is Jenny Sleath and I live in Selly Park, Birmingham. I am 23 years old and am currently a police officer for the West Midlands Police.
Earlier this year I entered the annual Formula Woman competition, which aims to find 16 of the best female drivers in the UK (who have not previously held a race licence) to race in the prestigious Championship.
I was selected from over 1300 women to take part in an assessment on the 11th May and prior to that I have been taking part in training to capitalise on this once in a lifetime opportunity. From as early as I can remember I have been fanatical about cars growing up in an environment dominated by endless automotive facts and figures and weekends filled with finding the best motorsport to watch on television! With my Mum attending track days (her two children urgently spectating from the stands!) and my brothers adoration of all things cars I have been severely influenced in this field and have found myself saving pennies urgently to attend various track days across the country since passing my past at the age of 17. Since receiving a place within the Formula Women assessments I have taken part in a skills track day at Brands Hatch Circuit, learning how to handle the competition Caterham 7 car and polish my skills! I am therefore confident that I can perform well and reach the final 16 where I can fulfill my dream to race in a prestigious motorsport championship. My skill has been proven by my acheivements at the assessment stage where I was selected to be one of the 100 finalists from over 500 women. The assessment involved a written motorsport test, a presentation, a karting assessment, a driving assessment as well as a fitness test (the dreaded bleep test!) where I excelled in all categories.
Formula Woman is a unique concept designed to attract and assist more women to enter the previously male-dominated arena of motor sport and is the only female motor racing Championship in the country. Over the past 3 years there have been over 15,000 entrants to the Formula Woman competition and television programmes on ITV 1, Channel 4 and Sky Motors TV.
Formula Woman was founded in 2004 and since then has run two successful Championships for female drivers, broken the Guinness World record for the most women to compete in a motor racing event and enabled over 100 women to take their ARDS racing licence. This has not been an easy task for Formula Woman as motor racing is historically a man’s sport and I relish the idea of being part of this pioneering Championship.
I will now join the final 100 who will attend an elimination round in June, where the lucky 16 will be chosen to race in the 2007 Novice Championship. The location of the elimination camp is undisclosed until the last minute! The top three drivers will obtain a free season in the Novice Championship and the other 13 will be required to find sponsorship. I am determined that I will make it into the final 16 and I am confident that I can secure one of the three scholarship drives available. I have already proven that I have good car control and speed on track during training sessions.
The elimination camp will mainly be based on my driving skills but also cover additional aspects such as fitness, motor sport knowledge and the ability to generate media coverage. All of these aspects are crucial to being a successful racing driver and securing the sponsorship required to be successful.
The Formula Woman Novice Championship will run over 8 races throughout the summer of 2007, at circuits throughout the UK including Brands Hatch, Snetterton and home of the British Grand prix – Silverstone. If I get through to the final 16 I will be racing a 1.6 K series Rover engined Caterham 7. (See the calendar below)

I am also looking for companies to support me through sponsorship opportunities, which you may be able to assist me with. Motor racing is an expensive sport, and sponsors are an essential part of financing my future racing aspirations Potential sponsors can pledge money to my cause and their business can be promoted via company logos on the championship cars and on my race suit, helmet and leisure wear that will obviously be aired on the television and shown within the press. The current sponsorship required for the championship is £12,000 plus VAT (which the sponsors can claim back).
